Sarah "Saartjie" Baartman: The Real Life of the Hottentot Venus

Many would not know her and neither did I before now,but her story is fastidious and extremely enraging for any black man. Sarah Baartman died on 29 December 1815, and she wasn't the Queen of England, so you wouldn't know her.Baartman was born into the Eastern Cape Khoisan, the indigenous herding tribe that once populated part of South Africa. As a teenager, she was orphaned after her father and fiance were both murdered in a colonial war, and sold to a trader, Pieter Willem Cesars. He took her to Cape Town, where she worked for his brother as a nursemaid. Around 1810, once the family started experiencing economic difficulties, they looked to Baartman as their next source of income, figuring that in Europe, where curiosity about the Dark Continent ran rampant, a pretty maidservant with notable buttocks and a spotty giraffe skin were a winning combination on which to stake their future.
Brought to Europe seemingly on false pretences by a British doctor, stage-named the "Hot…

#SaveMayowa alleged scam: Is this true?

The #SaveMayowa fund moved me, and i had planned that i will give my contribution as PositiveMate, before the it was announced that the money needed was successfully raised. I was happy not just for Mayowa but for Nigeria, for once the social media hype that has kept many young Nigerians idle is going to save a life. But few hours ago I came across insinuations that the whole thing or partly was a huge scam!
The sources discovered that the whole fundraising for the sick lady was a scam. Linda ikeji on her blog claims to have been in touch with quite a few people, and they insist the family knew Mayowa was beyond help but still went ahead to raise money for her. The  Ahmed Family in a statement this afternoon, said they are taking Mayowa to a hospital in Abu Dhabi but when they started raising money for her, they said they wanted to take her to Emory hospital, Atlanta, who had given them a quote of $100k. You will find the letter from Emory Hospital after the cut. Mayowa's family …

Drink up: Cockroach milk is the protein drink you didn't know you've been missing

One species of cockroach produces milk
Protein rich, this insect milk may someday serve as a human superfood.
A little cockroach milk with those cookies? Chock full of protein, the insect milk may someday be transformed into a food supplement worthy of human consumption, new research indicates.Scientists have found that the Pacific Beetle Cockroach feeds its bug babies a formula which is remarkably rich in protein, fat and sugar.Don't expect to find it next to the regular milk in the dairy section, however, at least not for now.
"Any liquid harvested from a cockroach is not true milk. At least not as we think of it," said Becky Facer, director of school and educator programs at Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta.
Most people would agree. After all, the insect liquid takes the form of protein crystals in the guts of baby cockroaches.
"The protein crystals are milk for the cockroach infant. It is important for its growth and development," said Leonard …

Arsenal has always got this right...

Being an Arsenal fan myself, there hasn’t really been much to celebrate this summer. Aside from the signing of Switzerland international, Granit Xhaka, it has been a grim summer so far – as has many previous summers. One exciting thing though is the appearance of both the Home and Away Kit for the 2016/2017 season. In this post, we take a look at the Arsenal 2016/2017 Home Jersey.Arsenal 2016/2017 Home Jersey

Arsenal stroll into their 3rd season of rocking jerseys manufactured by German Multinational Company, Puma. Everyone knows the traditional home colours for the Gunners have always been Red and White. Hence, it goes without saying what the colour of the 2016-2017 Home Jersey is. Arsenal will once again don a predominantly red shirt, with white sleeves. The sleeves are elastic to ensure a snug fit for the jersey. There is an italicized inscription of “A” on the upper back, just beneath the back collar. The complete Arsenal Home Kit for the 2016/2017 season will feature this red jerse…
